On June 5th the Ohio River Basin Alliance (ORBA) released their long awaited restoration plan. This exhaustive document, led in large part by the National Wildlife Federation and their affiliates (Indiana Wildlife Federation (IWF) is Indiana’s affiliate) lays out a transformative plan for the region. Currently the Ohio River Basin receives zero federal dollars, the largest such basin without funding, and much of the region has long been neglected and suffered severe environmental degradation and a lack of economic investment.
The plan is available OhioRiverRestorationPlan for public comment HERE until July 18th.
As Hoosiers we play an outsized role in the Ohio River, as over 80% of our state drains into the river, and countless Hoosiers rely on the River for drinking water and recreation. Use your voice to impress the importance of this plan and its implementation is to all of us.
